The Story of Tomas
Early Beginnings in Veracruz
Born in the vibrant town of Veracruz, Mexico, I discovered my passion for barbering at the young age of 13. Under the mentorship of my uncle Simon, I learned the traditional art of haircuts using only scissors and straight razors - the old-school way, without modern electric clippers. These early experiences, cutting hair for family and neighbors, laid the foundation for my future career.
Journey to America
At 15, I made the life-changing decision to move to the United States in pursuit of a better life for myself and my family. While working full-time at restaurants, I continued my passion for barbering on the side, cutting hair late into the night and building relationships with people from different backgrounds.
Building a Dream
Working in restaurants while pursuing my passion wasn't easy. Often feeling alone in a new country, I found solace in cutting hair. From 2013 to 2019, I balanced my restaurant work with providing haircuts, traveling to homes, garages, and anywhere I could set up shop. I served many clients, including MC students, building a loyal customer base through word of mouth.
Professional Achievement
In 2019, at the age of 30, I achieved a significant milestone by obtaining my professional barber's license. This accomplishment represented not just a personal triumph but the culmination of years of dedication to my craft. In 2020, I took the bold step of opening Tomas Barbershop in Clinton, Mississippi.
Today
Now, as the proud owner of Tomas Barbershop, I continue to apply the same dedication and traditional techniques I learned in my youth, combined with modern styling approaches. I'm deeply grateful for all the support I've received from my clients and the community that has helped make this dream a reality.
